Rabbits are becoming a recurring theme in my writing, partly because of this band.
Frightened Rabbit was a Scottish indie rock band formed in 2003 by lead vocalist and guitarist Scott Hutchison. Known for their emotionally raw lyrics, melodic sound, and heartfelt performances, the band gained a dedicated following with albums such as The Midnight Organ Fight (2008) and Pedestrian Verse (2013). Their music often explored themes of love, loss, mental health, and self-reflection, resonating deeply with listeners. Frightened Rabbit's impact was marked by their honest storytelling and distinctive sound, but the band faced a tragic turning point in 2018 when Scott Hutchison died by drowning. His legacy continues to influence fans and musicians alike, and Frightened Rabbit remains an enduring part of the indie music landscape.
Life is full of love stories and tragedies, and it’s all set to music. Hutchison’s struggles were all right there, front and center, in the lyrics. As I research mental health, I find myself thinking of him often and listening to the songs. They set a tone, often a bleak one, but even the darkest have a glint of beauty and hope.
I don’t think I know them. Will give a listen.
