Day Trip
basketball in lubbock
A quick stopover in Lubbock, Texas to watch a playoff basketball game. My oldest son, a freshman, got to dress out for varsity for the last two games of the season, and even got a little playing time. He handled himself well and, though it was brief, he learned a lot from the experience.
Basketball is big part of our lives. It’s been one of my greatest joys as a parent to be able to share my love of the sport with both of my boys. I’ve been able to spend countless hours with them shooting in the driveway, watching games on TV and at the AAC, coaching them from kindergarten to 6th grade, and now getting to watch them play for their school. They’ve grown up with the sport, and man, they are growing up fast.
I said a couple of weeks ago that sports are heartbreaking. They are. But they’re so rewarding as well. So many lessons about character, integrity, overcoming adversity and grit are learned through sport. These games are practice for life. It’s so sweet to watch them play.
